چکیده
The use of Cr(VI) compounds in leather tanning, pigment production and stainless steel welding can pose serious hazards to workers in these industries, since Cr(VI) is a documented human carcinogen.1 Epidemiological studies have shown that occupational exposure to Cr(VI) increases the risk of workers developing cancer of the lung and the sinonasal cavity and many countries limit both water soluble and insoluble Cr concentrations in the workplace.2 The primary pathways for human uptake of Cr(VI) are inhalation, ingestion, and skin permeation; inhalation of Cr can cause irritation of the nasal mucosa, nasal ulcers, perforation of the nasal septum, and cancer.2 While the exact mechanisms of Cr(VI)-induced carcinogenicity are not fully understood, there is strong evidence that Cr(V) species, produced from the intracellular reduction of water-soluble (cell-permeable) or insoluble (phagocytosed) Cr(VI) complexes, play a role in damage to DNA and other biomolecules that could initiate cancer if left unrepaired.3

Biosorption of hexavalent chromium in a tannery industry wastewater using fungi species
The isolated fungi species of different kinds from chromium contaminated soil sites located in Nagalkeni, Chennai were used for reducing chromium(VI) in a tannery industry wastewater of Nagalkeni, Chennai. The experiments were conducted to know biosorption potential of isolated fungi species for removing chromium(VI) in a tannery industry wastewater against the different pH, fungi biomass and ...
متن کاملEffect of citric acid on antioxidant activity of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) under chromium stress
Chromium-VI would impose detrimental effects morphological, physiological, and metabolic in plants. This study aimed to research the impact of citric acid (0, 2.5 and 5 mM), on different the morphological and physiological characteristics of garden cress exposed to chromium-VI stress (0, 1, and 10 mM). Results showed that some growth parameters, chlorophyll, carotenoids, and DPPH activity decre...
متن کاملA Study on the Removal of Chromium(VI) Oxanions from Acid Solutions by Using Oxonium Ion-Crown Ether Complexes as Mobile Carrier Agents
Crown ethers 12-crown-4 (12C4), benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5), 18-crown-6 (18C6), nitrobenzo-18-crown-6 (NB18C6) dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) and dicyclohexyl-18-crown-6 (DC18C6), dissolved in dichloromethane, are able to form oxonium-ion complexes in contact with aqueous sulfuric and hydrochloric acid solutions. This ability allows the transfer of Cr(VI) oxanions from the acid media, through an ...
متن کاملResponses of endogenous proline in rice seedlings under chromium exposure
Hydroponic experiments were performed to exam the dynamic change of endogenous proline in rice seedlings exposed to potassium chromate chromium (VI) or chromium nitrate chromium (III). Although accumulation of both chromium species in rice seedlings was obvious, more chromium was detected in plant tissues of rice seedlings exposed to chromium (III) than those in chromium (VI), majority being in...
متن کاملSolvent Extraction Of Chromium (VI) From Aqueous
The extraction of chromium (VI) from hydrochloric, hydrobromic, and acetic acid solutions with Tri caprylamine oxide (TCAO) in benzene has been studied. The extractions from hydrochloric and hydrobromic, acid solutions are nearly quantitative and are partial from acetic acid solutions. The optimum conditions for extraction were established from the study of the effect of several variables like–...
